Greek-Style Mini Burgers with Tzatziki Sauce

The original recipe called for ground lamb instead of turkey, but I have yet to venture into eating or preparing lamb so I opted for turkey. The recipe also calls for grilling, but we don’t have access to a grill (nor do I have a grill pan at the moment) so I just cooked them in a skillet. Overall, the burgers themselves were a little bland. Ryan and I both enjoyed eating a burger stuffed in a pita, and the sauce did offer a bit of flavor to the sandwich. However, I think I would probably try tweaking this recipe a bit before making it again. I give the burgers alone two stars but the pita sandwich and sauce three stars; Ryan said three. We both agree they were good but needed a little something more.

Greek-Style Mini Burgers with Tzatziki Sauce

1 pound lean ground turkey breast
½ medium onion, chopped
¼ cup parsley, chopped
2 teaspoons fresh oregano, chopped
½ medium English cucumber, peeled, seeded, and shredded
½ cup plain fat-free yogurt
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced

For burgers:
Heat a grill to high.

In a medium bowl, use a fork to gently combine turkey, onion, parsley, and oregano. Season with salt and pepper. Gently form the mixture into 16 small patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

Grill until done, a few minutes per side.

For the sauce:
In a medium bowl, combine cucumber, yogurt, lemon juice, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Cover, and refrigerate until ready to use.
